Downslope, this community appears to change to mixed oak as well as over the ridge. The ridge top has portions of woodland with a huge occurrence of black needle grass. There is a lightly used trail on the ridge.;This stand is almost a woodland with widely spaced Quercus prinus, aloowing a lot of herbaceous growth, particularly of Ageratina altissima and quite a few grasses. For a south facing high slope this stand has an unusually soft and rich soil.
Representativeness
Upper slope interfluve mostly dominated by chestnut oak with some hickory. Very open and widely spaced trees.
